Dorothy’s Ducks . . Pasture Managed Poultry

Dorothy’s Ducks and geese, turkeys and chickens……..

Currently the main focus of My Favourite Farm is raising pasture managed birds and animals, under the name: DOROTHY’S DUCKS.

How they are raised . . . .

Because of their fragile nature, and the temperature control needed,  the young chicks, goslings, turkey poults and ducklings are raised in secure, warm sheds and have free access to  certified organic chick starter and fresh water at all times.  The turkey poults have soy added to their feed because they require more protein than the other young birds

In keeping with the salubrious model . . . .

of raising poultry and fowl, the goal is to get the young birds outside, as early as possible.  From the moment that the birds can stand and run on their own they want to  hop outside in search of fresh green shoots to eat.  They have the freedom to  graze safely in the sun and fresh air, everyday.

Soon they graduate from small pens . . . .

to the large secure poultry yard, and from there to a 10 acre field under a pasture managed model. Shade and rain tents move with them;  the turkeys have their needed roosts and sandboxes in which to bathe, and the ducks and geese always have access to their portable swimming pools.

Everyday they free range pasture . . . .

and eat certified organic feed until they reach the desired weight, around 16 weeks. They are happy and generating the most delicious meat you can buy.

Our ARTISANAL CHICKEN LICENCE has been renewed for 2017

Issued by the CFO (Chicken Farmers of Ontario)

In 2017,  My Favourite Farm is busy raising:                                                1000 meat chickens, 50 turkeys, and 200 ducks and 50 geese.

And again this year, lamb and chevon –  goat meat, from Boer goats.

When the poultry and fowl reach the desired weight, they are taken to a certified butcher and are government inspected before and after they are killed.  They are immediately packaged, flash frozen, weighed and labeled.
